Research here is its own speech-and-language domain: emotion, speech, and language — especially speech emotion perception and misjudgement, Cantonese phonetics, tone and prosody, and Chinese/Cantonese education. This page lists peer-reviewed articles, conference papers, and conference presentations in that line of work.

  1. Online Cantonese Learning Platform

An online Cantonese learning platform that connects course modules, Jyutping instructional videos, and pronunciation-focused practice. It is at once a language-learning tool and a piece of teaching practice: it turns phonetic knowledge into a learner path, lowers the entry barrier for self-study, and uses course design to anticipate learning obstacles. The Jyutping component originated as a MOOC for which I independently designed the curriculum and shot and edited the instructional videos; lecturer: CHAN Wai-man (Sep 2019 – Jun 2020).

Curriculum design, video production, learner-path design, and pronunciation-focused instruction · Ongoing

  2. International Chinese Language Education Group

A Chinese-language education community I ran from 2020 to 2023. I curated academic information, lecture announcements, and recruitment posts, and hosted online talks on postgraduate applications and Confucius Institute volunteer experience — a small but sustained practice in understanding what learners and early-career teachers need next.

Group owner and community curator · Apr 2020 – Sep 2023

  3. Practical Cantonese Course for Ethnic Minority Students

A learner-centered Cantonese course for Hong Kong ethnic minority students. I was the chief editor of Super Practical Cantonese 超實用粵語 (Hong Kong Cantonese Enlightenment Education Studio, 2018), prepared materials, supported homework feedback, and coordinated language partners — the work was less about listing language points than diagnosing learners' specific obstacles and giving them a usable path forward.

Project Assistant · Cantonese materials, homework feedback, and language-partner support · PI: CHAN Wai-man · Mar 2018 – Jun 2019

  4. Chinese Traditional Culture & Character Teaching Reform

A character-literacy teaching project for primary learners. I co-compiled Learn Chinese Characters Clearly 明明白白學漢字 (Tsinghua University Press, 2020), contributing character theory analysis, orthographic evolution, and cultural connotations so that form, meaning, and culture could become teachable learning steps.

    Project Assistant · Primary-school character learning · PI: GUO Yan-ni · Mar 2018 – Jun 2018
